Wichita Auctioneers Buying

Wichita Auctioneers provides several options for you to preview items prior to the auction. Anyone can view our online catalogs or request a printed catalog. Prior to each auction previews of each item are available with a description, provenance, several different photographs of items together with links to register for an upcoming auction.

In addition to our catalogs, Wichita Auctioneers offers an open house preview for several days prior to each auction. Items are professionally displayed in the gallery and our auction experts are available to consult with clients. We encourage you to inspect each item of interest carefully as all items are sold “as is.” Antiques by nature, show signs of use and age, which often enhances their unique characteristics and creates their value, as in a fine patina. If you are unable to inspect the items of interest in person, please request a condition report and our experts will inspect the item for you and provide a written report of its condition.

Items available at auction are valued at “auction estimates” in a range which is based on the research of what similar items have sold at auction. They do not necessary indicate the highest amount an item will sell for. The market and bidding will determine final hammer prices.

Bid in Person

Bidding in person during the auction offers an exciting and fast paced experience. All buyers must register prior to bidding and receive a bid card which is raised to indicate a bid to the auctioneer. Once the auction starts, the lots are offered in sequential order. You will receive a printed catalog to follow along. When your desired item is offered, be sure to make your bid obvious by raising your card and make eye contact with the auctioneer. Auctions are fast paced and you must make decisions and communicate quickly. If you are the winning bidder, the auctioneer will close the item by saying “sold,” the final hammer price and announce your bid number.

At Wichita Auctioneers, just as at every auction house, all sales are final. You cannot decide after the auction that you paid too much, or the item will not fit in the place you had in mind, and you now do not want the item. When the auctioneer says “sold” and recognizes you as the successful bidder, a legally binding contract has been established, and you are the new legal owner of the item, even though you have not yet paid for it.

If, during the auction, you make a mistake or the auctioneer takes a bid by you in error, or the auctioneer sells an item to you for a price greater than what you intended to bid, you must say so immediately. This allows the auction house to correct the problem and immediately resell the item. Once an auction is over, there are no corrective measures for the situation and you are the legal owner of the item.

Be sure you know, before the auction starts, what methods of payments are accepted, and how you will complete your purchase if you are the successful bidder. You will be expected to pay for any purchases immediately following the auction. Wichita Auctioneers accepts VISA and MasterCard, for credit cards issued out of the U.S, we accept no exceeding $5000 altogether per invoice. In addition, you may pay with check, cashier’s check or wire transfer. When you register to become a bidder, you must present a valid credit card and government issued identification. This will be considered your form of payment unless other arrangements are made immediately following the auction.

You can participate live on the phone with one of our trained professionals who manages phone bids from around the world during each auction.
